Architecture+Design: ‘Design Dialogues’

In remembrance of the immense work and contribution made by the master architect Le Corbusier and in the 50th year of his death anniversary, Architecture+Design in collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland, recently organized ‘Design Dialogues’ at the Embassy of Switzerland, New Delhi. The dialogues focused on the contemporary topic “The journey continues from Le Corbusier’s Chandigarh to future smart habitat”.

H.E. Dr. Linus von Castelmur, ambassador of Switzerland to India and Bhutan, graced the occasion with an inspiring opening address. This was followed by the formal release of the book ‘Le Corbusier: Ideas and Forms’ by distinguished architectural critic and historian William JR Curtis. At the event, William Curtis and reputed architect Rahul Mehrotra made presentations on the topic that addressed the important approach to city planning. One of the many highlights of the event was the invigorating dialogue between Curtis and Mehrotra, moderated by Prof Brillembourg, chair of Architecture and Urban Design at the Swiss Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland. As India is intensely debating on the concept of smart cities, the dialogue attempted to suggest a balanced and rationalized approach to the whole process of development of the future smart habitat. The panelists also provided contemporary solutions keeping the historic context in mind. After the dialogue, there was a brainstorming question and answer session that generated interest amongst the audience with informative ideas.

All in all, the event turned out to be an intellectually charged meet with an august gathering of more than 250 people comprising reputed architects of the city, other professionals/ academicians, students of architecture and architecture lovers.
